Safe gas mask filter I have several army gas masks from the 80s and 90s. one of them are russian GP 5 and I also have the PMK and a GP 7. I read that they could contain asbestos in the filters for the GP 5 masks. One of the filter says this on the side 26-88-1-90 and another one says 1-92-185 and the third 186-4-92

All WWII filters have blue asbestos (the bad kind) while the other one's have white asbestos, less harsh, but still dangerous with prolonged exposure. Also, almost all cheek filters are safe, unless if it's from the Russian PBF "Gorilla" mask.
The gas mask is probably a Dräger Simplex (German) or a Model 4 Civil Defense mask (Izrael). Both look the same, but one key difference the Model 4 has a strap that wraps around the your neck when you're not using it for easier access. I think it's a Model 4 it has the same marking as my Israeli M15 mask.

Just a word of warning, I may be mistaken and the whole "asbestos in gas masks" thing is probably hugely overblown but I have seen reports that that gas mask's filter does contain asbestos. The mask is a great looking cold war era mask, and looks great on display. The satchel that comes with it feels great. I wouldn't recommend using the filter that comes with it, as I'm fairly certain it uses asbestos as opposed to the activated charcoal the GP5 uses.
